Being a lover of peppermint I set out to find the best 8 paleo-friendly peppermint recipes; some raw, some baked and even one for chocolate smoothie.
I think there are two kinds of people in this world – those who love peppermint, and those who don’t. Me? Well, I’m one of the first group because I looooove peppermint – especially when it’s combined with chocolate!
So, I was thinking about different ways to combine chocolate and peppermint in Paleo friendly ways recently, and I decided to set myself a challenge and hunt down ten awesome recipes that use peppermint and chocolate AND that are Paleo friendly, and then share them with you.
And this is what I have found.
A whole bunch of awesome recipes, some raw, some baked, all deliciously minty.
1.Chocolate Peppermint Candy
My first find were these deliciously simple, homemade peppermint chocolates by Trina over at Paleo Newbie. They’re quick and easy to make using some crystalised raw honey, dark chocolate and peppermint extract. What a great gift idea!
2. Mint Chocolate Chip Protein Fudge Brownie
As the name suggests, my number two find is a high protein brownie recipe from PurelyTwins.com. The girls have come up with a basic grain free brownie recipe that they’ve then covered with a mint topping made from avocado, banana, coconut butter and other yummy stuff including mint of course! The brownie is baked and uses a combination of hemp, arrowroot and coconut flours.
3. Paleo Peppermint Patties
These peppermint patties by Erin from MeaningfulEats.com not only look great, but they taste great too! Raw, paleo, delicious…. Mmmmm….
4. Paleo Peppermint Chocolate Crinkle Cookies
It sounds like Davida over at The Healthy Maven created this recipe for her “Crinkle Cookies” on the back of a number of failures. But good things always come on the back of the biggest failures and she’s created a good one here. “Soft pillows of mint chocolate sweetness” is how Davida describes them. Pretty good description I reckon. She’s also linked to a few other yummy biscuit recipes from the page with this recipe, so go be inspired!
5. Peppermint Fudge
I love fudge, don’t you? I have a really great recipe for a raw nutty fudge that I created about five years ago. You can find it here (it doesn’t have peppermint though…). But this recipe from PaleoOMG does. The recipe was actually a guest post by Aleana from Grazed and Enthused and although I haven’t yet tried it, it looks really, really interesting because it contains mashed Japanese yam! Sounds weird but weird is interesting.
6. Paleo Mint Thins
Delicate chocolate & mint cookies made from almond meal and coconut flour, all covered in luscious minty chocolate…. These treats were created by Elana of Elana’s Pantry and apparently inspired by Girl Guide cookies. Yay for Girl Guide cookies and the inspiration they provide!
7. Paleo Coconut & Avocado Grasshopper Bars
When I saw the header for this recipe I was excited. I thought “Ooh, ooh. Grasshopper flour….” Then I realised that what I meant was actually cricket flour and no, the recipe doesn’t contain any crickets or grasshoppers. I’m guessing they were given that name due to the green colour? Anyhoo, Adrienne over at Whole New Mom has done a good job of creating this grasshopper recipe. Lots of coconut, peppermint and cacao is always going to be good! Take a look.
8. Chocolate Peppermint Smoothie
And to wash it all down, a chocolate peppermint smoothie from Good Girl Gone Green. What better way to finish off a peppermint-n-choc fest?
Now also, in case you missed it, I also posted a recipe a while back for a raw peppermint and chocolate slice that uses avocado in its creamy, peppermint filling. It’s really good
Enjoy!
